Sometimes writer, sometimes artist, sometimes photographer, always storyteller.
Do you ever just see something and goes "THAT. I WANT THAT"?

Well this is THAT for me last weekend.

Also, absolutely love the cover art they made for my little ol' writing. Shipping the zine to here is a little bit out of my budget at the moment but I hope I can scrounge up enough cash to do so before it sells out.

If I had a nickel for every Broadway show that I loved involved two female leads, both nominated for Tonys, hated each other's guts in the beginning, had the love interest changed his attention from one to the other, had a "swordfight", has fake murder(s), who then became lifelong friends...

Thanks to the Threat Soap, it feels like I’m doing a micro-performance everyday. I didn’t make clear in my last post about the soap of its dimensions but it is roughly 15 × 6 × 4 cm. Or at least that was its measurements when I took this photo, fresh off of a shower. #threatsoap #contemporaryart

I’m reading Jim Supangkat’s essay on the rise and fall of the New Fine Art Movement in Indonesia. (Only a third through, I’m a much slower reader in Indonesian.) There are already several fascinating insights that Jim wrote, like how the movement is not a trend or school of art like 1/5

The Black December Statement didn’t come without consequences for its signatories. Many of those artists were “suspended indefinitely” from their schools, or in other words, they were expelled. Ris Purwono was one of those “suspended” artists along with Bonyong and FX Harsono. #contemporaryart

This is a bar of soap from Shilpa Gupta's "Threat" displayed at MACAN's Voice Against Reason exhibition. The first as it looked after almost a year sitting on my shelf and the second after I used it to bathe.

I was wondering why I was getting so many notifications from my PS app about games on my wishlist being on sale. Turns out it's because of this.

Another signatory of the Black December Statement was Hardi, an artist who studied at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia in Yogyakarta. (You might have noticed that many of the signatories are from Yogya’s art school. This is a discussion/article for another day.) #contemporaryart #indonesianartist

Made a somewhat impulsive purchase yesterday of the ElfQuest Bundle on Humble Bundle and god, reading these graphic novels again is flooding me with waves of nostalgia.

Siti Adiyati, also known as Atik, was, as far as I could tell, the only woman to sign the Black December Statement. Much like her fellow Black December artists, she criticized the status quo of the Indonesian art world in the 70s. Siti attended Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia, 1/3 #contemporaryart

I finally reached Infinite on Snap and now I can be free from this hell of a hyperfixation.

Bonyong Munni Ardhi’s work displayed at the National Gallery’s Piknik 70an exhibition was definitely an eye catcher. A large canvas of red hung on the wall. But it is not merely this red covered canvas that made this painting unique, for that would make it just another abstract painting 1/4

I had scoured the internet for images of the flower arrangement that was sent along with the Black December Statement. I know it exists because I saw it in the Piknik 70an exhibition but I unfortunately didn't take a picture of it. Turns out FX Harsono had posted about it a while ago.

Of the 14 signatories in the Black December Movement, the name I am most familiar with is FX Harsono. I saw his work, Wipe Out #1, in MACAN’s disini, d.l.l., before Piknik 70an, the National Gallery’s exhibition that taught me about the Black December movement.

For the next few weeks, I’ll be covering the artists involved in the Black December Statement. So what is the Black December Statement or Pernyataan Desember Hitam? #contemporaryart #indonesianart #arthistory

Soni Irawan’s chaotic, messy art caught the attention of collectors worldwide. With its bold colors and graphic strokes, his works make for great conversation starters and centerpieces. It’s not a surprise that his works are popular. #contemporaryart #indonesianartist

Heri Dono is one of the names that come up when one talks of internationally renowned artists from Indonesia. He received his art education at the Indonesian Institute of Art (Institute Seni Indonesia) in Yogyakarta.

Not much in this article really surprised me with influencer culture and all, but this part made me do a double take.

I don't often go visit art galleries at shopping malls because they tend to display sellable artworks. Nothing wrong with that, I just usually find them boring.

But I liked this one. The intentionality of the display? 10/10
