It has been pointed out to me that this means 2.5 billion-dollar AI music company Suno has spent less money on music than many individual music fans
Billboard got access to Suno’s investment pitch deck.

It revealed that Suno has spent $32 million on compute, and $2,000 on training data.

Let that sink in.

Wow. Just saw that far-right MP Rupert Lowe welcomed convicted criminal Lucy Connolly, who called for people to set fire to hotels housing immigrants, to Parliament last Mon.

Lowe (formerly of Reform UK) praised her "courage"

Connolly, of course, pleaded guilty to inciting racial hatred last year.

A friendly reminder that generative AI is a service that is provided to users, and not the ‘tool’ they’d so dearly love for you to believe.

That’s it, you can scroll on now.

Ofcom is a body that could be described as toothless. Except for the fact that it does have teeth – in the form of legal enforcement powers – but simply chooses not to bite.

We're all waiting for an invitation to the club. But you don't need permission to be a writer, an artist, a director, a designer, a musician – or anything else.

To own the noun, do the verb. Write. Paint. Make. Film. Act. Design. Play. Sing. Perform. Create, create, create.

Feels good, no?

Please read this brilliant piece by Baroness Kidron in The Times, in which she rightly eviscerates UK government ministers for "obeisance to the tech bros".

Ministers’ silence on threats to our creatives is bewildering
Despite the government’s supposed focus on growth, its policy on artificial intelligence suggests it has no regard for our wealth-creating creative industries

Is A River Alive? is published today, 1 May.
It’s about the lives, deaths & rights of rivers—& how our fate flows with that of water & always has.
To the people, places & rivers whose ideas run through its pages, thank you so much.
I think it’s the book I’ve been learning to write all these years.
