On November 3, 1992 Carol Moseley Braun became the first Black woman elected to the US Senate. The Illinois Senator became only the second Black senator in the 20th century at the time. Kamala Harris (CA), Angela Alsobrooks (MD) + Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE) were Black women elected after her.
