Write letters in support of your library, to the board and to your local paper. Commit to attending a couple board meetings. Contact your political reps about doing something about the gutting of IMLS. Go to protests. Anything. Just get involved and advocate.

And by swimming with it, you can find the little gaps that separate "almost powerless" and "almost nothing" from "powerless" and "nothing." You can focus on those hard, and you can make the absolute most of them.
