I spoke with @susrust.bsky.social about H7N9 and H5N1 bird flu, as well as the possibility of immunity to H1N1 providing some protection.

There’s a lot we still don’t know but one thing I am certain of: there is too much bird flu circulating in too many host species.

Am getting inquiries on how to stay safe in terms of air LA due to fires...indoor filtration is key. Inexpensive CR boxes can be built in less than 1 hour by a 5 year old and outperform more expensive HEPAs. KN95 for particles. Respirators with activated carbon is concerned about gases/fumes. (1/2)

Just a reminder that it's not surprising that SARS-CoV-2 isn't surging right now, and that it shouldn't be surprising when it surges again.

Here's why:

1. It's not seasonal like flu and RSV.
2. There was a surge in summer/fall.
3. The next major variant hasn't arrived yet.
