With tonight's @bluemoonpodcast.com live show done (online tomorrow), that brings to a close another season... The 16th I've done the podcast for now. If it was a child, it'd be leaving high school or could legally drink wine, beer or cider with a meal in a restaurant. My baby is growing up.

I went into Manchester this morning and saw this being done in the Northern Quarter. Looks like a De Bruyne mural to me!

When I took this picture of Veendam’s stadium years ago, it was locked up by administrators and the exterior was all overgrown. I wrote “this was as close as I could get” and everyone replied with “no it’s not!!!!”. My arm was through the metal fencing blocking it off.

What a season. They scored 29 goals all season (level with bottom of the table Watford) and only 10 were at home, the final one on 1st January. They somehow finished 14th.

Maybe this is a HOT TAKE, but these films are far more watchable and enjoyable than the three sequels. The sequels might have better dialogue and acting, but the overall story, the structure and the emotion just isn't there. Everything has a purpose in the prequels and adds to the Star Wars story.

The structure of the films works really well to drive towards the story that we know is coming. You really feel for the good guys, how they've been manipulated, and you understand every character's motivations and actions. All their decisions have consequences and there's genuine sadness at the end.
April 27, 2025 at 12:05 AM
There's a lot of focus on what doesn't work in this trilogy, but I think a lot should be made of what does work. The emotion is there. The characters are perhaps wooden (as the actors battle with terrible dialogue, CGI co-stars, and takes being edited without chemistry), but you FEEL the situations.

The weird thing is, the advancements in the technology of the time probably don't help these films. The CGI becomes less believable as we go on. The speeders move more like cartoons and the droids get floppier and less "metal". The CGI sets just don't have the same feel as when on location.
