@booker.senate.gov and sen Andy Kim, NO ONE IS LISTENING TO YOU!
Please, it is time to call this out in louder, more strident language like, “This bullshit is against the law. This president doesn’t give a fuck about the constitution.”

This morning, a 6th grader came in and blurted out, “Mr. Sexson, is it true that Trump is going to deport illegals?”
I reminded them that I voted for Harris.
I then assured them that they were more protected living in California, than those living in red states.
That is a Tuesday morning convo now.
Undocumented immigrants and their California families braced for the worst as newly sworn-in President Donald Trump began issuing executive orders to enable what he promises will be the most massive deportation in U.S. history. cal.news/40Im4F7

Happy MLK Day. Since nothing’s going on, I wanted to share this. There are too many quotes to pull out, but I’m going use this, since I am a teacher, “To sustain a healthy democracy requires citizens who have been prepared by their education system…to exercise the responsibilities of citizenship.”
It Is MLK Day. Do Not Despair. This Year Especially, We Have Work To Do.
With delicious anticipation, we imagined it.

As the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wisely said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Today and every day, I pledge to never silence my voice in the fight for what is right, and I will continue to march in the path he forged toward justice.

I LOVE this song (who doesn’t???), but I don’t get why it is still on the charts, 20 years later.
Amazing.
🚨YES🚨

Today, The Killers Mr Brightside is at number 61 in the Official UK Singles Chart.

That’s 2 weeks this year, and 439 non consecutive weeks in the chart since 2004.

Love this tie. My wife bought it for me when we went to Cedar Point in 2008. (The kids and I were on roller coasters, and she was shopping.)
Today, one of my ELD kids asked me why I was such a “chill” teacher.
It’s gotta be the tie, right???

That moment of silence for California at the Eagle’s game was the loudest moment of silence ever.
Philly being Philly.
(My kids saw their first drunk in public at a Phillies game.)
You stay classy, Philly.

Under the GOP's SAVE Act, Tribal IDs would NO LONGER be accepted as valid identification to register to vote.

This is a direct attack on the voting rights of Native American communities.

SpongeBob tie, Disneyland 2025 mug. I just finished the first week back from winter break, and the middle schoolers did a good job.

That husband is a horrible person.
Racist? Probably.
Classless? 100%.
But who cares?
I don’t, because I watched Madam Vice President’s face after he refused to shake her hand.
She laughed at him. That is what victory looks like.
Can’t wait for her to be our next governor of California!
I can’t stop watching this asshole husband of a Republican Senator Deb Fischer who refused to shake hands with Vice President Kamala Harris today.

MAGA is classless even in victory.p

I don't even have anything insightful to say today.

I still can't believe he won after his actions 4 years ago today.

Today is January 6th and no one is watching the Capitol be plundered, feces being smeared on the walls, and police officers being stabbed with American flags.

Why? Because one side believes in democracy no matter what, and the other side only believes in it only when they win.

This man and a small group of capitol police officers singlehandedly saved our democracy four years ago.

In November, 77 million Americans said "to hell with them" and voted for the insurrectionists.

Your "Back the Blue" flags are a pathetic disgrace and your patriotism is bullsh*t.

I thought for sure that the actions by these traitors would cause them and their leader, our Prez Elect, to become politically toxic.
Remember, for a VERY few hours, the republicans in Congress condemned these actions, & Trump.

We must never forget that Trump encouraged this, & fanned their flames.
There were many people who voted for VP Harris and are dissappointed with the election results.

I was one of them.

However, we will not be storming the U.S. Capitol.

Because we got class n' shyt.

We're not uncivilized like these mufuckas.👇🏾

We would talk to our kids & set those expectation levels together. Sometimes the bar that they set needed to be raised by us, so we would increase the goal slightly. They knew that we were going to help them achieve, or we were going to fail together.
Now, one is a lawyer, the other an engineer.
Parents-Guardians: As we look to 2025, we may be apprehensive about the country’s direction, but let’s have high hopes for our children, expect the best for them & from them (note: the best is not perfection). After all, often we get what we expect.

Yep. We would keep them moving all day, even though we were tired, and then all watch a movie on the couch to end the time off with some family togetherness. After the movie, they would fall asleep quickly in bed, then I would stare at the ceiling, excited about going back to teach the next day.
Parents/Guardians: Are you gearing up? Getting ready to have your children resume their routine of school? Stay strong. Help tire them out tomorrow so they can go to bed on time. It’s a great way to set them up for success for the second half of the year.

Last night I finished “It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me,” by Rex Chapman. Excellent book. I knew a lot of the story, but the final 25% was all new to me, and worth the price of admission!

Now I have begun “James,” by Percival Everett. It is fascinating, and has me thinking.

I can’t put into words the gulf of decency that separates Madam VP and the Prez-Elect.
Clearly, our country does not deserve her.
I hope she runs for governor of CA in two years. Cakewalk.
Sen. Ruben Gallego’s son told Kamala Harris he’s sorry she didn’t win the election. Here’s her response:

In 2024, I rowed or skied on a concept2 row erg or ski erg for a total of 2,264,167 meters (I added them up last night).

Started that year at 265lbs, and finished the year at 247.

I am trying to get to 225lbs this year. ( I have NO IDEA how I weighed only 195 in college!)

Happy New Year! Here are the books I plan to read this year. I used to be an avid reader, then I stopped.
I’ve already begun reading “It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me,” by @rexchapman.bsky.social. 75 pages in, and I’m loving it.
The next book will be “James,” by Percival Everett.

Happy New Year to everyone, especially those who follow #Edusky. I got up a couple of hours ago, stumbled around to get myself going, and decided to look at the Edusky group.
An hour later, I am ready to make the second semester of my 32nd year teaching stronger and more meaningful than the first!
