Love this tie. My wife bought it for me when we went to Cedar Point in 2008. (The kids and I were on roller coasters, and she was shopping.)
Today, one of my ELD kids asked me why I was such a “chill” teacher.
It’s gotta be the tie, right???

SpongeBob tie, Disneyland 2025 mug. I just finished the first week back from winter break, and the middle schoolers did a good job.

Accurate, sometimes.

Last night I finished “It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me,” by Rex Chapman. Excellent book. I knew a lot of the story, but the final 25% was all new to me, and worth the price of admission!

Now I have begun “James,” by Percival Everett. It is fascinating, and has me thinking.

In 2024, I rowed or skied on a concept2 row erg or ski erg for a total of 2,264,167 meters (I added them up last night).

Started that year at 265lbs, and finished the year at 247.

I am trying to get to 225lbs this year. ( I have NO IDEA how I weighed only 195 in college!)

Chicago is my wife’s favorite city, but we’ve only been there during the summer. This is why…

Happy New Year! Here are the books I plan to read this year. I used to be an avid reader, then I stopped.
I’ve already begun reading “It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me,” by @rexchapman.bsky.social. 75 pages in, and I’m loving it.
The next book will be “James,” by Percival Everett.

I love this flag. This specific one. We were on top of twin peaks with our daughter and the track coach from SFSU on a college recruiting trip, when he pointed it out and said, “Ah, San Francisco. If you treat her right, she’ll take care of you!” That flag was blowing in the breeze.

I hope you all are having a great day! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah, from SoCal!

My wife and I atop the Palm Springs Tramway last night. We took the kids and their fiancés to the Peaks Restaurant (the “8th ranked cliffside restaurant in the world”). The food and was excellent, and the service was great!
She always looks beautiful in photos (and real life, too).

This is the Christmas tie that shows my age the most. Santa is lamenting joining Facebook because of all of his friend requests.
15 years ago, this tie was awesome.
Today is the final day before winter break, and I’m still having my students work!

Here is my favorite holiday tie. I wear this every year, and every year, my students (and other faculty) comment on it.
The EPCOT Center mug reminds me of the first time I visited WDW, way back in ‘84.
ONE DAY LEFT before our winter break!

Todays tie is one of my favorite non-Santa holiday ties. It is different types of snowmen.
Also, my grades are done for the semester! Very nice feeling.

I am almost 6’4” and weigh 265 in these photos.
Someone is fudging numbers JUST a little.

Today’s tie (December 17th) is another Christmas gift from a student. This one plays “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” when the bottom of the tie is squeezed.
At least, it’s SUPPOSED to play it. The musical part broke years ago, so it plays at the slightest brush, but won’t play when I want it to.

This is a favorite of mine…snowman at the beach. I wore this on November 15th. The students often react about how it is dark, because the snowman dies on the tie. Others laugh. I just love the irony.
It reminds me of a picture where a snowman was warming his hands over a burning pile of money.

Good morning Bluesky! This is the last week before winter break, so it is spirit week at my middle school. Today is ugly sweater day. I’ll post a holiday tie photo later, that I wore before Thanksgiving. For now though, we have the Bumble.

Okay! I MUST remember you because I was working guest control in the Disney art gallery for Disneyland’s 33rd birthday. It was one of the first days that I worked in the park.
For sure, I remember seeing you in attractions in 89 & 90.
Here is the signed litho I got that day. Did you get one, too?

This was the tie for November 14th. It is probably my most expensive tie. I received it as a gift from a student about 20 years ago. Their father is a golf pro, & mother is a direct descendant from a general in the American Revolutionary War. Both of the kids in that family were very down to earth.

My tie choice for November 13th. Christmas ornaments. Unusually shaped ties are always attention grabbers with the students.
The mug is from the Disney Alphabet collection that we bought during Covid. “R” for riverboat. (I worked on the Mark Twain Riverboat attraction at Disneyland during college.)

The tie for today, December 13th (Happy Friday the 13th, for those who celebrate), is Santa with a really long stocking cap. The mug? Elf.
No, I wasn’t wearing my wedding ring for the photo. The ring is on now, dear.

This car was in my middle school staff parking lot today. They clearly LOVE 30 Rock. I’ve always said you gotta be a little crazy to teach middle schoolers. Confirmation.

Here’s my tie for today, December 12th. A Christmas tree strapped on top of a car. I don’t remember where I got it, but it always reminds me of my dad.
December 12, 2024 at 7:15 PM
The tie for today, December 11th? A reindeer with garland and ornaments hanging from its antlers. Already got some complements.
The coffee mug? Snoopy. Fun on the outside, but not easy to drink from.
Middle schoolers are awake today!

My classroom heater just kicked on for the first time this school year. One of the great benefits of living in the low desert!
