The real question is whether there's a Data or Lore bubble bath bottle in there.

That would also explain why the Stargazer's registry number is much higher than the other known Sagan classes (not really but let's go with it). So I like to think that by 2410 there's a shiny new USS Sagan out there. Perhaps even an NCC-75055-B.

Thanks for coming to my pointless TEDtalk.

So rather than change the name of the class (which is a lot of paperwork) they decided to shuffle the names. The first Sagan-class was redesignated the USS Stargazer during construction, and Sagan was moved down the list until after the revised decommissioning date for the current namesake.

Because there already was a USS Sagan: the Intrepid-class NCC-75055. That was meant to be decommissioned as Starfleet consolidated around smaller numbers of fewer different ship classes, with the name being transferred to the first Sagan class.

But plans change. USS Sagan was still exploring...

Why does it bug me? Because in Trek, as in real life, the first ship of each class (almost) always shares the name with the class. So the first Sagan-class should be the USS Sagan.

So why wasn't this tradition followed here? Was she just the first ship ready, or was it (Beta cannon incoming)...
