A sunrise, and a silver gull.

Simple things, profound beauty.

It did me good just to see these today.

Jonathan Rauch @jonrauch.bsky.social in The Atlantic provides an expert analysis of what is happening under Trump in the USA… his conclusions are all the more concerning because we’re only a few weeks into who-knows-where we are headed

Props to @revchrisdavis.bsky.social for posting
In this sweeping piece, @jonrauch.bsky.social suggest that what Trump is doing is "not classic authoritarianism—nor is it autocracy, oligarchy, or monarchy."

His argument of what it is–and what to do about it–makes sense of the chaos we're watching.

Could journalling be the best low tech way to get some clarity on how you're going?

I've been encouraging many people to take up journalling. It's very easy, and brings some great benefits.

#Advent ... hope grows out of the second coming of Christ, the last judgment, the defeat of Satan, the triumph of God... it summons us to what Saint Paul calls the “hope against hope” (Rom. 4:18)—the Christian hope that perseveres when human hope is at an end.

I am reading though @frutledge.bsky.social 's Advent: The Once and Future Coming of Jesus Christ.

Loving the counter to commercialism and Christian escapism that "Christmas Season" often becomes.

Oh, and I may drop some choice quotes...

@trvandeelen.bsky.social Just read your piece in The Reformed Journal. Even though I'm a hemisphere away, and things are just getting warmer here, it relaxed me. Thanks.

Promoting #PastoralSupervision this morning at a regional gathering of church leaders. These contexts tend to be pretty change averse, so I'm coming in with a value pitch rather than one of compliance (which is still a little soft here in Australia). I'll be keen to hear what sort of questions arise

#Pastors: it’s a constant juggle: Sunday prep, visiting, church meetings, community events, etc. And it’s each week without let up. Things easily get muddied by constant demand.

Clarity evaporates, and it’s easy to lose touch with why you’re doing this work.

AI may have found all the right words, but AI will never have the Spirit of Christ. AI will never know for itself that Jesus is alive. That’s why AI will never write a sermon. AI doesn’t know.

Is the yoke easy?

When pastors begin to desire more for their church than the church does for itself, then pastors can borrow accountability for their church’s achievements. The resulting sense of responsibility can be overwhelming
