Another similar problem is launching as many R processes as available cores but not realizing that some of your functions are multi threaded (e.g., bc they call BLAS with openmp) and the total procs x threads greatly exceed the core count. I see this a lot on the HPC clusters I help manage.

It's been so long since I lived in a place without a plastic bag ban, I can't imagine possibly caring about it.
