I've written about the overarching post story, causes, underlying pattern. But the failure of Lewis or Bezos to even show up, literally or figuratively, on a day of devastating cuts epitomizes the profound lack of character and accountability that is so common place today within the American elite.

Jeff Bezos makes enough money to fully fund this literally every two minutes.
Former Washington Post journalists have launched a GoFundMe to help repatriate fired staff members who are effectively stranded in foreign countries.

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

We are deciding right now whether we want to be a country with ethnic cleansing and concentration camps.
The banality of evil is shocking. An ex-Big Lots warehouse for cheap consumer junk is bought by ICE to ship as many as 7,500 handcuffed human beings, as the Trump regime builds a U.S. gulag archipelago

The unthinkable comes to Pa. coal country. My special report www.inquirer.com/opinion/ice-...
From Big Lots to warehousing humans: ICE plan sparks fear in Schuylkill County | Will Bunch
A massive warehouse in Tremont. Pa. that once moved cheap goods will now detain migrants in an $119 million ICE deal.

There really does seem to a be “authoritarian playbook.” Somewhere in step 1: control access to history.

On Maddow, Georgia Fort says two dozen agents showed up to arrest her. One, unarmed, would obviously have been enough. I don’t think we’re talking enough about the ludicrous, theatrical terror (masks, military gear, drawn weapons, entire platoons for arrests) being used by the administration.

ICYMI: The US is currently holding three times as many people in immigrant detention as were detained in the Nazi concentration camp system in spring 1939 — six years into the Third Reich, and just before the start of World War II.

Dems: PLEASE don’t start using the term “retribution” for what should happen to T admin lawbreakers/sadists. Justice, yes. Accountability, yes. I’ve heard numerous politicians and reporters use the term this week. Another example of Ds unthinkingly adopting the right’s framing and rhetoric.

This is corruption on a breathtaking level. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, an Abu Dhabi royal nicknamed the "spy sheikh", pumped $187mn into Trump family businesses. A WSJ team has the whole story, reported here for the first time. Remember: Jimmy Carter had to sell his peanut farm.

Lawyers can't reach clients in ICE detention. I've heard it anecdotally, but scale of issue is horrifying.

Bloomberg Law is a legal trade pub so many may miss this. Screenshot from their CA newsletter summarizes "bleak" situation for justice and rule of law.

The issue isn't whether "Melania" is a good movie or a bad one. It's that one of the richest men in America, with business interests affected by public policy, gave the President's family $75 million to make it. Like that's somehow legal.
