Yeah, eg my brother (born ‘71) went to Durham after private school, but my mother failed the 11 plus and my father - well, no clue. But our sisters have been cleaners, factory workers etc.

But possibly do have families that contain the knowledge of how to go about accessing / applying? You’re right that how those networks work depends on the gradations within the class bands tho
