Good news fellow mountain athletes! I do believe the new FATMAP has landed - meet OUTMAP. It's brand new and very, very promising. I recommend the free trial to play with the 3D imagery and terrain layers - it's solid.

Our best trail running find in 2024 was a variation of the Tour des Combins. If you're looking for a four day run in the Alps that goes through Italy & Switzerland, stays high in huts, climbs an alpine peak, and has almost 100km of perfect singletrack, visit

Why go on a trail running trip to the Himalaya?
The obvious answer is probably different from the reality.
Once you go, you know.

We explain why we go. And, why we keep going back.

Please read.
I did and was reminded of something that is so easily forgotten.
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

Why do most trail runners obsess over races?
What if you got creative and combined your fitness with objectives of your own design? Mountains, for example.
Think of the places you’ll get to go.
It’s all up to you.

The Greek Islands probably didn't come to mind when you saw this, but Greece it is.
We were lucky enough to spend three days traversing the island of Crete, high on a ridge line, with the sea on each side.

As the trail running guidebook creator to the Alps, I cringe when I see Strava's suggestions - all UGC trash versions and very much out of season. But, how long until AI discovers what is best and in season? Do you use this stuff? Or do you seek human curated trail running routes when you travel?
