Last night on TDS, John Stewart had former NZ prime minister Jacinda Ardern as a guest. A wonderfully smart & empathetic woman. She said:

“Acknowledging your history isn’t an unpatriotic act. It’s a way of saying ‘I love my country & I can do better.”

Let’s not cancel history. Let’s do better.

It has taken medical science 200 years to advance humans to the point where people are so healthy and living so long that they can deny that science and medicine is what got us here.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

At no point in this entire article of 16 paragraphs does ABC mention that another cop killed this cop by shooting her in the back. Nor does it mention the name of the cop who killed this cop. Nor does it mention that the civilians involved never fired at them.

ABC might as well be state media.

We don’t celebrate Pride for the rainbows or parades, we do it because *right now* someone out there believes they don’t deserve love, just because of who they are or who they love.

That’s why we celebrate Pride—because we want to build a world where no one feels that way.
