This is a key point. If you are server making $65k after tips, you are getting a $2,500 tax break, but your insurance costs go up by $3,000. You just lost $500.
AOC: "On this point of tax on tips, as one of the only people in this body who has lived off of tips, I want to tell you a little bit about the scam ... the cap on that is $25,000 while you're jacking up taxes on people who make less than $50,000 across the US ... while kicking them off the ACA."

The best way to reduce the cost of Medicaid is to name and shame big employers that pay their full time employees so little, they qualify for Medicaid

The implementation considerations for this is unfathomable. It takes 18-24 months to build the system. You can't start building the system until you have regulations. It takes 12-18 to regulate.
This means revised coverage estimates — maybe significantly so (read: more uninsured).

Despite not binding until 2029, work requirements made up nearly half the Medicaid savings/cuts over the 10-yr budget window ($301B of $625B). Of course, they only save money if they kick people off the program.
Significant: House Majority Leader Steve Scalise says Republicans will revise the House bill to trigger the Medicaid work requirements earlier. Existing bill starts them in 2029. I asked him when; Scalise replied: “We don't have an exact date, but it'll be sooner than what's in the current bill.”

Question for the economists. The Fed uses interest rates to balance our economy between inflation and recession. Lower rates spur activity but are inflationary; higher rates tamp down inflation but slow growth. What is the path when tax policy creates a recession that is also inflationary?

Unseen in this memo is the attempt to starve state and local governments of badly needed resources to update their infrastructure. Justice40 was a required element of every grant proposal, so "eliminating...funding agreements...that reference Justice40" is all currently awarded projects. 1/ 🧵
Department of Transportation orders all personnel to "identify and eliminate" every order, directive, rule, regulation, policy, notice, guidance document, funding arrangement, or program that even mentions climate change, diversity, or environmental justice

RI’s AG on Medicaid payment portal
This was no “glitch.” It was an irresponsible unexplained and intentional stopping of the flow of Medicaid - healthcare - funds. So plainly unconstitutional the feds didn’t want to put anything in writing. This is what we are dealing with. And why we fight.
NEW: When RI officials sought answers today about the funding freeze, US officials warned them "there would be no communication in writing," per newly filed affidavit from RI Dept of Administration Director Jonathan Womer

Among the things that are now "paused": training inspectors on new building codes so new housing can be built, flood prevention projects on coastlines and rivers, small business supports to help entreprenuers start their dreams.
NEW — OMB temporarily pauses all agency grants and loans programs.

Per copy of memo: "The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve."

In his 2022 Senate run, Dr. Oz called for the ACA to be replaced with privately run Medicare Advantage plans for which he was once a paid spokesperson.

Now, he might become the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator.

Dr. Oz Celebrated Obamacare for Years Before He Was Against It
Oz, tapped by Trump to be CMS administrator, later pushed for an expansion of private Medicare Advantage plans — which he’d previously been paid to promote — as a Senate candidate.

I like a lot of this. But the TPAs need to be paid not by ins cos. That would lead to the same issue of the 2008 housing crisis and credit rating agencies.
If you want to understand why healthcare pricing is horrific, the first thing to know is that our system puts 100% of the credit risk for deductibles, copays and co-insurance on hospitals and doctors. That's insane.

We have turned them into Sub Prime Lenders 🧵

The excitement for the cutting a tax credit that helps entrepreneurs, small businesses, and early retirees buy health insurance is mind-boggling.
"In the time since Trump signed those cuts into law, the big benefits have accrued to higher-income households. The top 1 % received about a $60,000 income tax cut, while those with lower incomes got as little as a few hundred dollars. Some people ended up paying about the same."

Trump and Republicans in Congress eye an ambitious 100-day agenda, starting with tax cuts
Republicans swept to power on Election Day and now control the House, the Senate and the White House, with plans for an ambitious 100-day agenda come January.

Ok. #healthpolicy question. Any research or best practices on EMR patient portals, especially around test results. A family member had a scan and can see the results and write up in the portal. Their providers all claim they don’t have the results. And stress and worry are resulting.
