If there's one thing the mainstream news media love to overlook, it's the impact of the mainstream news media. The petite Tea Party in all its elite-backed astroturfiness was hailed like a sacred comet; the historically huge No Kings was played down by the NY Times, among other publications.

It's important to show voters that Trump doesn't lie to make their own dreams come true -- he lies to protect himself, to con rather than comfort them. bsky.app/profile/meid...
Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

depressingly fascinating. "The tech firms have already overturned the information regime that was correlated with the high points of democratic achievement. What has come instead rewards the cheerleaders of phobia"
Our government *is,* or will soon be, entirely designed around climate change. Related to Dasgupta's piece, I think the second Trump admin is the first real climate presidency.

This analysis of the changing American nation-state argues that Trump's presidency is a distraction from bigger problems.

Trump claims Canada’s Ronald Reagan ad attacking tariffs is “fake.” The ad used an edited 1987 speech by Ronald Reagan, in which he said, among other things: “High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries and the triggering of fierce trade wars.”

At every No Kings march, I'm knocked out by the variety and creativity shown on people's signs, but annoyed at the narrow repertoire of vague, lame chants recycled from the 70s: "Whose streets? Our streets." etc.

"we need forest leadership that understands the urgency of the situation"
The Garnet Fire has burned through a place I have worked since 2002. A place I hold dear. We knew this wasn't a matter of if, but when. Unfortunately the leadership on the Sierra National Forest didn't have the same urgency that we did. My eulogy for Teakettle.

Pretty important
The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

New "The Conversation" by collaborator Dr. Ellen Welti on Nutrient Dilution: the decline in the nutrient density of plants, with consequences for the critters that depend on them. Which, frankly, is the rest of life on Earth.

Climate change is making plants less nutritious − that could already be hurting animals that are grazers
Rising carbon dioxide levels in the air are making plants grow larger and faster, but diluting their nutritional content. This could threaten the health of herbivores worldwide.

Trump vilified tech giants. Now they’re giving him millions.
After years in which Trump called them enemies of the people, Silicon Valley executives are hoping $1 million gifts and Mar-a-Lago dinners will mend bridges with the president-elect.
