Very happy to say I will be a PhD student at the University of Derby in the new year, researching Social Infrastructure in Staveley, Chesterfield. Working alongside some great colleagues, including @alessiodangelo.bsky.social and @nisanalici.bsky.social. Extremely grateful and excited to start!

I have joined the Greens this week, the first political party I have ever joined. I have been moved to action by Zack's new direction and his active challenging of the status quo.
We need change, get involved.
Another day. Another clutching of pearls hit piece.

Today courtesy of the Times. I'm not sure if the Daily Mail or the Express are on the rota tomorrow?

You know what to do:

🚅Want to end the Great British Train Robbery?

✍️It only takes 1 minute to sign our petition.

🤑The rolling stock companies have made £3.6 billion in dividends over the past decade.

Now's the perfect time to demand they take our trains into public ownership.
Petition: Take our trains into public ownership | We Own It
The government is taking railway operators into public ownership, but the trains themselves will remain in private hands. The government must take our trains into public ownership.

Great new report and analysis here from @ipprnorth.bsky.social and @msingerhobbs.bsky.social.

This covers the economic, social and environmental costs of the decline in buses seen over the last decade and what can be learned from Greater Manchester to kickstart a revival in local bus networks

Manchester's buses becoming under local control again is a testament to what can be achieved when local people are given the power to do what they actually want. All power to Burnham and the team at TfGM for years of hard work.
Definitely a positive start to 2025!

Excellent insight by Stephen here. Lack of long-term planning, guidance and specificity, especially in transport, can only lead to more and more fragmentation in the system.
I’m late getting to the new NPPF today and like many in transport policy find myself welcoming a lot of the language in the ‘sustainable transport’ bit - notably the endorsement of vision-led planning - and hoping this will deliver some progress towards development of less car dependent homes, but…

Introduction Post!

I'm Dan, a transport researcher and advocate. I recently completed my MA Politics dissertation comparing the transport systems in Greater Manchester and Metro Vancouver and I am currently writing my first journal article.

Would love to connect with people in this new place!

Louise Haigh's resignation is disappointing to say the least, many positive moves in a (politically) short period of time and a rare shining light from this government.

Very pleased to say that tonight's #Railnatter guest has received her copy of #HowTheRailwaysWillFixTheFuture and is brandishing it at a SkyTrain station in Vancouver... Which is useful, as that's the episode subject matter!
