Subtitles aren’t just for deaf or hard of hearing players. They’re important for players in loud environments (who can’t use headphones), non-native speakers who rely on text to follow dialogue, and many neurodivergent folks who struggle to focus or process audio quickly. Just to mention few.

I really wish that as we move to this new platform and create/adopt new communicative norms, corporate media would slow the f*** down and not skeet an inane barrage of news, restoring the older pace when journalism had weight behind it rather than its value being tied to a headline

🗣💬 Major update: the corpus collection tool BlueskyScraper now comes with a live stream module which lets you collect posts in real time, either randomly or through filters, then download the results as a file in the format of your choice.

Bad headline. It doesn’t divide grammar ‘nerds’. It vaguely interests writing style guides. It infuriates pedants though, as it proves that there are no rules, there are only conventions after all. Which is what the (good) style guides have said all along 😊 www.theguardian.com/science/arti...
Harris’ or Harris’s? Apostrophe row divides grammar nerds
The Harris campaign has yet to put a full stop to the issue, which has riled up social media users

¡Flipo con el hecho que el pluscuamperfecto de *indicativo* latino se mantiene como tal en gallegoportugués y asturleonés!

Fueram/fueras/fuerat/fueramus/fueratis/fuerant

… en castellano y valencià han pasado a ser el pretérito (imperfecto) de *subjuntivo*. Nada revelador, pero ¡vaya curiosidad!

🐦🐦 share your favourite paper on Castilian/Spanish subjunctive (bonus points for morphosyntax, syntax-sem interface, or morphosemantics and extra bonus points if it mentions the future tense of subjunctive!)

thanks in advance!

once again asking if anyone can point me to any researchers working on agglutinating languages or Turkish #linguistics (morphosyntax, semantics, morphosemantics) 🙏🏽 thank you in advance

is it just me or does it feel like 98% of everyone who pursues doctoral/postdoc linguistics ends up in the US (and if not there then the UK)?

it’s so hard to meet people who do linguistics and live in a non-anglo country (which usually is Germany, which is like semi-anglo in practice)
