The last good Wimpy Kid film.

Nice - I'm mainly using mine for Gran Turismo 6

The Day the Earth Blew Up? I'm pissed too - it seems to have released everywhere BUT the UK. Don't tell me it's some licensing issue, as I doubt it.

Btw, I don't think Megalopolis or Memoria would count as they have home releases in the UK.

"No home releases in the US", yes.

Seriously WTF was that ancient Greece twist? Controversial take, but I could swallow aliens in Indy fine but not time travel.

Katherine Applegate is the antithesis of Rowling in every single way - she is extremely supportive of trans people and has a trans daughter she adores.

I really wish Animorphs was the one to get a big budget TV series and not Harry Potter. Its themes on war and child soldiers hit hard.

I imagine if The Birth of a Nation was made today, it would be rejected for promoting racial hatred. It got a 15 due to the film's historical significance.

It's also one of a few works banned for potentially inciting racial hatred - the other is Hate Crime, a horror film about a neo-Nazi gang terrorising a Jewish family, primarily banned for solely consisting of them physically and sexually abusing the family.

TKAOW (and Traces of Death), on the other hand, has the suicide in its entirety, and lacks any valid documentary purpose - it's meant as mere sick entertainment for a viewer, hence why the BBFC rejected both videos.
July 18, 2025 at 6:04 AM
The reasons are twofold:
* The footage had context other than "lol, see someone die" - it was used to illustrate the precedence of gun violence in America
* His suicide is only on-screen for a second and it cuts away before any gory detail can be shown - it used what was needed to illustrate a point

A film I often compare it to is Bowling for Columbine - in it, at the 20 minute mark, there's a montage of American gun culture set to "Happiness is a Warm Gun" that eventually ends with scenes of real gun violence, including the televised suicide of R. Budd Dwyer.

Unlike TKAOW, this passed at 15.

I really wish Speed Racer got a 3D version
July 17, 2025 at 11:04 AM
Scream 6's 3D was rushed to cash in on Avatar 2.

Granted, given the advancement in conversion tech since 2010, it didn't look as bad as Clash of the Titans or The Last Airbender, but still.

However, I can see Yorgos eventually relenting and giving it a home release (most likely on a Criterion 4K of Poor Things) much like what Apichatpong Weerasethakul did with Memoria.

I doubt Hayao Miyazaki will budge.

Another example that frustrated me is Yorgos Lanthimos' Bleat, a silent B&W short he shot with Emma Stone around the same time as Poor Things.

It hasn't seen a home release as Yorgos only wants it to be seen with a live orchestra.
