The hits keep coming at the NEA: Last Friday night, the endowment sent emails to hundreds of arts organizations abruptly (and apparently indiscriminately) pulling or terminating grants. Meanwhile news emerged today that many of the endowment's directors have resigned and staff has been cut by half.
NEA Abruptly Pulls Arts Grants on a Massive Scale
Arts organizations, including dozens of theatre companies, had NEA grants withdrawn or terminated late last week, and leadership resignations at the endowment bode ill.

Creativity is like a houseplant, not an endless well. You need to seek out sunlight, water, and nutrients in art, shows, music, experiences, and more to tend to it. And just like plants it has its dormant and active periods and you may not seem improvement for some time.

if you were taught as a kid to not ask for help, to not attract attention, and to ignore your own wants and needs, I know how hard it is to unlearn these things and why the awkward process is worth it

Anyway: I should have done more of these updates throughout my fellowship, but as my time with @washingtonian.bsky.social comes to a close, I wanted to highlight some pieces I’m proudest of.
