I completely understand!! I'm not saying that you or anyone has to agree with me. It's MY position and MY ethical framework. and I figured I'd share it since you asked!

Sure it's a bummer when someone seems to be or actually is falsely representing their own work, but that's the risk you run with public work, and someone insisting their own work should be subject to different limitations than someone else's due just to their own feelings doesn't sit right with me.

You don't have to link the translation. You don't have to approve it. You can even post that you explicitly disapprove, that you know it doesn't fall in line with what you believe your work to be doing and or saying and you'd prefer people didn't read it.

First, I disagree about what translation is. Translation is an art, no matter who is doing it, it involves a degree of interpretation and that's sometimes out of line with author intention due to translator interpretation.

I also disagree with the fact that you have to agree you wrote it.

To me that is horrifying.
To me that is a betrayal of fandom.
Why bother sharing?
Why bother entering into this community?
How can you possibly justify what you're doing to someone else's work they might feel the same about?

I allow every single transformative work because it's not my place to allow or deny. Transformative work is transformative work, and if we're going to do whatever we want to other people's canon it's the height of hypocrisy (and nonsense) to insist our creative work is somehow excluded.
