It's just 1D (although its aiming to solve a 3D projection problem), but it needs to be absolutely fool proof because it needs to be solved many many times. In general it won't be positive a.e. but you know the root has to exist because the projection necessarily exists (the set is convex)

This is the kind of AI-skeptic commentary that bugs me. $200M is a rounding error on the defense budget, and the amount of capex that's gone into AI development, for better or worse, has made Nvidia $4T company. AI might well be a bubble, but this is not a 2008 level bailout, it's just dumb money
