Writer, EIC of the Evergreen Review, teacher in the New School’s grad writing program, all-around hater of 45/47. I'm in it for the endolphin rush.
I had the great privilege of writing about George Whitmore’s beloved novel, Nebraska, for the good people over at the Baffler.
Trying to Sound Sincere | Dale Peck
In “Nebraska,” George Whitmore explores the nature of truth— and the ways people are forced to manipulate its presentation.

I guess I'm supposed to do that thing where you remind people of something you wrote, but god, I hate bringing any attention to this hateful POS.
Miss Direction | Dale Peck
The danger of George Santos isn’t merely his lies or crimes but how liberals and conservatives alike capitulate to the performance.

This is a nice capsule history of what is itself a capsule history of the way neoliberalism descended into what we used to call populism, but now recognize as white supremacy trying to cover its tracks.

As you might expect of a celeb-driven “investigation,” Tapper/Thompson’s Original Sin (and this piece in the Nation) pins the 2024 election loss on Biden’s brain rather than four decades of Democratic neoliberalism, which has consistently undermined lip-service gestures toward social justice.
The Biden Scandal Goes Well Beyond the Aging Cover-Up
The former president’s stubbornness and narcissism led to disastrous Trump victory.

“For ideologues like Vought, who see Trump’s presidency as a vehicle to advance the unpopular goals they could never get through the actual democratic process, this has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Totally agree, tho I wonder what happens when Trump realizes he’s been played.
Donald Trump’s first 100 days have shown what a vigorous use of executive power actually looks like. But aside from permanently hobbling the modern American state, it’s hard to see what he’s actually achieved with it.

Elon Musk’s Epic Cybertruck Fail
Elon Musk’s polygonal pickup is a polarizing sales flop that's missed the billionaire’s volume goal by a staggering 84%. And there’s no sign that things are improving.

I’d say we’ve hit a new low, but this administration has very long shovels.
Bondi declares war on the courts: "What has happened to our judiciary is beyond me ... they are deranged ... we are sending a very strong message today ... we will come after you and we will prosecute you. We will find you."

Joe was my doctor for a few years in the 90s. As a young HIV-negative slut, I think my predictable and curable ailments amused him, and offered a break from all the direness. Later I got to know him socially as well. He was kind, quiet, and courageous, and he saved more lives than we’ll ever know.

The WSJ article was about Elon's nuttiness. This piece by Sarah Jones is a much more reasoned take on what's wrong with pronatalism, and why we need reproductive justice.

Huh. Guess he missed 2025.
David Hogg is right to want a Democratic Party that fights harder. But pretending this isn’t about ideology is a mistake. You can’t fight Trumpism while embracing the donors, war criminals, and neoliberal rot that created him.
