Cycling advocate, passionate about cycling. Instigator of Critical Mass Oak Bay, a movement to persuade community councillors to build cycling infrastructure for all ages and abilities. Love to travel.
Recently reached a milestone with my e-bike. Since I got my e-bike in 2018, I ride more often and for longer distances. It’s been a fun, enjoyable ride. Quite different from the standard bikes I rode for 30 years. As for those folks who suggest elders can’t ride bicycles… oh yeah?? NOT true.

Yep. That sums it up.

People insist they need to drive their children to school because it’s not safe. I have my doubts about this logic.

I live in a Canadian city where one can cycle pretty much the whole year round. However, in my district, council is super slow to develop bicycle infrastructure. And I do mean slow. In my 25 years of lobbying has resulted in ONE bike lane. Super unfortunate. Some tourists like to cycle

Last night Oak Bay Council voted to delay the Henderson and Haultain bikeways. These bikeways were identified by council in 2023 as ‘quick wins’ for the community. So.. still waiting for these quick wins’.

Took down strings of outdoor Christmas lights recently. That was a lesson in frustration in that, try as I might, I can’t seem to get the strings back INTO their original boxes. Anyone have a technique to share to get light strings back into the boxes? OR do you even bother?

I can only imagine the reaction this would cause in my community, not that it would ever happen as it’s a highly car oriented community but.. it made me giggle.

Wishing you a peaceful, merry Christmas

What they might be saying soon in Toronto. Hope that attitude doesn’t spread in my community.

I can relate to this!

All I want for Christmas (for me and my community)….

This is definately the attitude of our kitty.

What? Of course I can be on top of the china cabinet. I can do WHATEVER I want.

I’ve sure noticed how much bigger vehicles are getting in the 30 + years I’ve been cycling. All the more reason to build cycling infrastructure.

I was thinking about these words as I walked back from our neighbourhood produce store. It was the second time I had been there this week. The other time, I was on my bike. These words resonate with me as completely accurate.

This is what it’s like trying to get bike lanes in my community. SO difficult.
