Listening to John Bolton is weird to me, because I find him very insightful and thorough which, oddly, makes me forget my political differences with him until he circles back to an action point or policy preference that I find reprehensible.

Basically, he is a great analyst with bad politics.

The United States will spend years manufacturing consent for a war by bombarding us with relentless propaganda about some foreign country that has never done anything to us, 80% of the population will still be against it, and then they'll just invade them anyway.

Honestly, Trump's administration kidnapping a foreign head of state and strategically seizing control of valuable natural resources in the process *is* the most American thing they could be doing. And it is, in fact, what the Dems have been doing for the longest time as well.

The Napoleon movie was an extended, extremely wet brain fart by Ridley Scott. Odd how that happened to such a great filmmaker.

Our NYE activity was watching 'House of Gucci' (2021). What a wonderful film! It could have reached Shakespearean heights, too, I am sure. But despite the not-too-short runtime, it needed at least an hour or so more of development. Patrizia's emotional arc should have had more breathing room.

Going into 2026 with a sort of hopeful disposition, all things considered, I must say.

Sometimes a lack of inhibitions is actually good. But it is an art to know when inhibitions are obstacles and when not. Ironically, this requires a sort of second order, selective inhibitory response to letting go of inhibitions. That is fascinating to think about!

Nor do the actions of the four castes, orders, &c, produce any real effect."

It is such a sad thing that we have so few extant sources of Charvaka philosophy. The radical negative heartbeat of Charvaka philosophy breathed life into the whole organism of the Indian tradition; it carried the dialectic! A MVP if there ever was one.

My history of philosophy is very traditional and will not satisfy those who are not already in my own philosophical tradition, but it is difficult to really argue against once you know your stuff. It is structured in the following way:

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps:

- It’s ‘voilà,’ not ‘wallah!’
- It’s ‘a lot,’ not ‘alot.’
- It’s ‘further ado,’ not ‘farther adieu.’
- It’s ‘flesh out,’ not ‘flush out.’
- It’s ‘sneak peek,’ not ‘sneak peak.’

No worries if not!!!

I am making a hearty Flemish beef stew (Carbonnade Flamande) based on sour brown beer, and it is coming along beautifully!

Fun fact (true at time of writing):

I am a Dutch person seasoning my Dutch oven in my oven.

Sort of warm take: Brennan Lee Mulligan is a better game master than Matthew Mercer.

It's sad to say, but more often than not it does nothing.

Since bog-standard liberals are now called "radical left scum," what the hell do I and my people call ourselves!?!?

So far, in my journey of healing, I've focused on my own human shortcomings. That was the right priority. But now that I've taken my own moral inventory, there is room to consider what others have done to me as well. And, you know...? I've been treated poorly, in ways that were wholly undeserved.

'Do They Know It's Christmas' is such a self-satisfied, self-aggrandizing song for utter assholes. I love it!

I got around to watching a James Bond movie for the first time, namely Casino Royale (2006). It turned out to be a surprisingly well put together romp through action movie tropes, despite a bit of a clunky opening act. I can see why people like movies like this.

What is the antonym of 'ennui'? Because I am experiencing whatever is designated by such a term. My experience is one of fullnesss, richness, and gratitude going into the festive days of the year.
