The real-time reporting of South Korea today was far easier to follow along on Bluesky than X. It’s these moments that define these platforms. Bluesky really does have the juice.

People are often surprised when I tell them this: both Twitter and Facebook/insta/threads are now specifically engineered to downgrade, hide, suppress real journalism. If this platform is different, that's a huge change

Thanks for your excellent article in The Guardian today, George. If you could please let your followers (here and on X) know about our campaign run by and for the women affected by deceitful relationships with #spycops we'd be really grateful.

I agree that this is a legitimate issue that Bluesky needs to prioritize.

And I’m going to remain optimistic that their thoughtful staff will give it the focus it needs, and not kick the can down the road.
Bluesky is now big enough it has to grapple with a problem that nearly every platform before it has also faced: how to handle verification. I wrote about why its current approach is flawed, and talked with @hunterw.bsky.social about his valiant effort to verify notable accounts himself.
Bluesky has a verification problem
The influx of new users to Bluesky has opened up new opportunities for scammers and impersonators hoping to capitalize on the attention.

When the police coerced me into implicating myself in a murder I knew nothing about, little did I know they were following a method: THE REID TECHNIQUE. It’s used by police across the world to bully suspects into confessing. Protect yourself by learning how it works.

I don’t benefit from the dental program or $10/day daycare

I don’t need the Canada Child Benefit & I already have coverage for diabetes medicine should I need it

I vote in favour of these things because it’s not just about me

Being Canadian means caring about all Canadians

1. The difference so far (and for god's sake let's keep it that way) between X and Bluesky is not between right and left but between abuse and respect.
A good society is built on mutual respect. But what does this mean?

Just a thought. With Bsky exploding in popularity... an account verification system might be in order. Seeing lots pof posts reporting fake accounts (that look totally legit) One in particular was for Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Any thoughts?

Just my 2 cents. But my goal is to ignore the trolls. Give them zero attention. Block them if they annoy me.

I think the worst thing we can do on this site is re-create the ad hominem/ personal attacks that occur across comments on Twitter/insta/tiktok/ etc

Now that they destroyed their own neighborhood, the Maga/Elon trolls are rolling in to BlueSky.

My recommendation is to block early, on the first offense, without explanation.

We should acknowledge that MAGA and Trump’s victory were enabled by internet platforms whose business models reward fear and outrage. Dems had 8 yrs after FB enabled Trump and never had a floor vote in either chamber on a single bill that could possibly have addressed the harms. 🧵1/x

A big part of having a good experience on Bluesky (or on any social media) is simply kindness. And gratitude.

Say hello.

Welcome newcomers.

If someone writes something that makes you think or feel good, tell them.

Be generous about sharing & complimenting other’s work.

Embrace the mosaic. 🦋

Politics is a pendulum, obv. The problem is that Trump's fascism is going to result in the pendulum swinging wildly to the Left at the midterms, towards the Squad and their ilk. Those of us in the center need to strap on our seatbelts. It's going to be bouncy.
