the absolute worst thing you can say to someone who has somehow managed to endure complex trauma compounding is

“You’re so strong!
I don’t know how you do it!”

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.” Ernest Hemingway

We’re all just figuring it out.
Messy, brilliant, human, real.
And that’s more than enough.

Never underestimate a cycle breaker. Not only did they face years of generational trauma, but they stood in the face of that trauma and said “This ends with me.” This is brave. This is powerful. This comes at a significant cost. Never underestimate a cycle breaker.

Misbehavior (acting out or acting in) is communicating unmet needs.

Could be systemic, could be individual, could be a mix of both

Working w/ our parts in trauma recovery means being willing to ask, w/ patience & respect, "What does this part hold?"; "What does this part want?"; & "What does this part need?", over & over again-- & then being willing to wait for & listen to the answers.

We can't take anything back we said or did when symptoms were bulldozing us. That's maybe the hardest truth about trauma & addiction recovery I struggle with.

All we can do is make the amends we can-- & work our recovery to live as meaningful, values-congruent a life we can now.
