Bracketing the jfc he just said that, I can't help thinking here how this reveals "tough on crime" views on human agency, dignity, & deserving leniency: When ordinary people do heinous acts they get full weight of the law, but when people in power do heinous acts excuses abound, "things happen"

My take after #MeToo is this may have the motivations backwards: They're going to appeal to power in order to protect the existence of men who rape teens.
Protecting powerful men is incidental to the core goal of protecting a space for men they believe *ought to be* supplied teenage girls.
