Calls are growing to release Palestinian protester Leqaa Kordia, who was arrested at a Columbia University protest in 2024.

Although that charge was dismissed, she was later detained at an immigration check-in and sent to an ICE jail in Texas, where she has been held since March.

The genocide isn’t over. Israel may have slowed the rate of direct killings it is committing by bombing Gaza, but the indirect killings continue unabated. And so does the Israeli-engineered “debate” in the West, one designed to obscure and excuse the mass murder of Gaza’s population.

The alternative is back to war, [and] descent into total anarchy — or we move forward.” ▪️Eide said the Trump-backed 20-point plan lacks clear sequencing, making implementation easy to stall. “The plan says many of the right things, but it’s not very clear what happens first and what happens next.” “Parties can always say, ‘I’ll do my part only when he has done his part.’ That’s a problem.” He urged that the transitional bodies — the Palestinian governance mechanism, the Board of Peace, and the international stabilization force — be established “this month.” “Those are the key answers: get the sequencing right, get the institutions in place.” ▪️On security arrangements, Eide said outside militaries will not fight Hamas or impose disarmament: “It is very unlikely we will get any consensus on an international force that will do the job of physically disarming Hamas against their will.” Any demobilization, he argued, must be Palestinian-led and post of a political arrangement, noting that Hamas has indicated it would only move on weapons once credible institutions are in place. ▪️He stressed that the transitional bodies must be temporary and clearly lead back to PA governance, saying Palestinian self-determination cannot be conditioned on completing reforms. ▪️Eide also delivered a rare rebuke of Israel’s long-standing leverage over the process: “We have to take away the de facto veto Israel has enjoyed for decades. He grew up in the camp and loved playing football. He lived through the genocide, but he was deeply attached to Jabalia camp. When the ceasefire came into effect, he went back to Jabalia and stayed there, visiting his family several times. He was loved by everyone, always helping people. I loved him because he was my sister’s son, because he was responsible, generous, and always listened to advice. Even the last time I was with him in Jabalia before he was killed, I gave him some religious advice and reminded him that this world is temporary and nothing lasts. I told him: ‘Nephew, never think that God does not see you—God sees you. Don’t fear anyone but fear God. You are close to death, so never abandon your prayers.’ And he told me, ‘You’re right, uncle.’ Praise be to God, may He have mercy on him and accept him as a martyr, God willing.” — The uncle of the child Zahir Shamia, who was executed today by Israel and then run over by an Israeli tank.
