I write a newsletter (yeah yeah so does everyone) about news & progressive, feminist politics. This week it's a question that comes up again and again in Aus: "Why are these protesters ruining *my* day?"

Most people think protest is just 'raising awareness', rather than making a demand.
Why disruptive protest?

It feels disingenuous to talk about "Donald Trump’s decisive victory among working-class people" without acknowledging other factors that drew those people to Trump; if it truly were just about class then Black working class voters would have voted for him in overwhelming numbers, and they didn't.
Right-wing parties and politicians from One Nation to Donald Trump decry their left-wing rivals as "elitist". Do they have a point?
One Nation and co think progressive politics is elitist. Are they right?

focusing on class undoubtedly allows politicians to appeal to a broader range of people but i don't think the takeaway from zohran's campaign should be that leftists should go back to zeroing in on class to the exclusion of everything else - that isn't even the strategy he used

Tricky analysis and I'm not sure I agree.

It's simply not true that race, gender and climate are "post-material" issues. And even by that logic, the Greens were strongest on material cause of rent in the 2025 election... so really it's about *perceived* elitism, and trying to shake off thr label.

Like the local streaming quota, Australia should legislate that a certain amounts of views should go to Australian users as a way of promoting domestic Posting production

Dozens of men have now tied their faces and futures to neo-Nazism. There’s no easy path back from that, writes Scobie McKay.
Why are members of the National Socialist Network unmasking themselves?
The decision by neo-Nazis to identify themselves publically may reflect an internal sentiment that far-right radicalism is becoming normalised.

This is such a good insight into the mind of the conservative woman. Senator Leah Blyth says: "I say this to people – which sort of stops them in their tracks – ‘Who taught you to masturbate?’ And they’ll sort of go, ‘Oh, no one.’ It’s like, ‘Yeah!’ So, why do we need to teach kids that now?"

@ketanjoshi.co on today's podcast cracked my brain open re: the Coalition ditching net zero:

"They are flat out saying that 'we just don't feel like it's worth protecting our citizens from this particular type of harm'."

Political reporting misses that this is *material* harm.

Seeing some commentary around this graph Gen Z "swinging right" etc etc. Someone tell me if I'm wrong but...

Isn't it just that a small portion of Gen Zs were eligible to vote in 2019? And 2025 is less a 'shift' but a more accurate representation of the whole as way more can vote now? #auspol

Post-truth era?? There is no deal! Never was! The $35m deal is fake, that is the satire my friend.

They did the exact same joke in September when they faked a News Corp acquisition proposal.

I feel like I'm going crazy???
@thebetootaadvocate.bsky.social turning down a $35million offer from Sportbet then preceding to absolutely roast them and gambling might be my favourite thing to happen in media ever.

You know we are in the post truth era when the guys doing satire are the only ones with a moral compass.

Devastating. Teen Vogue did real political reporting and writing on the issues, in a way that Vogue has not done for decades and decades (if it ever did).

To give editorial oversight of Teen Vogue to the Vogue team at this time really reads like neutering political criticism for young women.
They just gutted Teen Vogue which had top notch political journalism. The media is continuing to purge any sort of political dissent to Trump and the oligarchs.
