How to cause a crush load crowding in the Netherlands.

Free and skating.

Ik denk aan Pete Buttigieg.

Despite having 8000 parties, this country really only has progressive and moderate Democrats or extreme and moderate Republicans.

Dutch 2025 sample ballot for a single choice.

For the first time in my almost decade of cumulative living in the Netherlands I have finally found the great white whale of paver laying.

The European mind cannot comprehend voting without showing ID.

Here in liberal Netherlands I need to be registered to vote AND show my photo ID while voting.

Bakken = Car,
HC = Head Conductor.

The Dutch don't have PTACs but we do have Packaged Thermal Air Ventilators (?)

Just completed social housing.

(Also note the motel style access, because we have dual staircase regulation.)

"a double stacked building with urban courtyard design."

Look no further than W 23rd for what is probably the densest block in the western world.

A catenary gapped swing bridge in Leiden. I think they simply yeet the train across?

Retvrn to traditional Parisian values.

Demolish this and build that. Shitty but climate change adaptable windows included.

Don't be degrowth "we are full" Paris. Embrace the insane density of London Terrace Gardens.

First grocery run with baby and Bakfiets.

Wife's rankings of convenience:
-Best for large runs? Driving
-Best for daily? Walking (NYC was much better with infant)

With a car seat this is NOT convenient.

Daughter's ranking?

This has financially ruined me.

Article wherein the general utility of Dutch public transit is contrasted against increasing auto usage.

Driving is almost always faster and often cheaper, always for a family, results in 70% of all travel km being in the car despite a strong WFH culture.

Ah European accessibility.

If you don't give me a place to change my baby's diaper, we are just gonna desecrate the shit out of you Amsterdam Centraal. You silly little monument you

After my mother's visit she commented how Dutch malls are as busy as American malls in the 90s were, the latter being dead today.

Yes this mall has 3 grocery stores but also fundamentally different circulation. With stores having multiple floors and their own elevator. Simply denser walking.

Europe: predictable paralysis over how to deal with increasing urban temperatures while 10's of thousands die each year. Cannot install aircos "urban heat island effect will make things worse!"

Meanwhile is significantly hotter, denser, more humid, and awesomer cities (old photos Taipei and HK.)

Exhibit 2525: The Netherlands is suburban NJ, not urban.

(Ironically shopping for a bakfiets).

Few such instances.

Amsterdam has some terrible urban planning.

Just one block from the biggest core business district in the country, including major train station.

Single family mansions.

I remain adamant that Utrecht Centraal is a significantly worse passenger experience than NY Penn.

Strictly because passenger egress forces you through this stupid mall.

Penn Station you are on the street in less than 1 minute.

(Fixing it, but you cannot beat quickly popping out at 8th Ave.)
