Fox closed her eyes, felt the cold on her face
She smiled at the darkness, lost in winter's brace

Solstice had come, the promise of more light
Nature's cycle was done by end of this night

She wished all souls love with the return of the sun
and #SolsticeBlessings for everyone

It’s the time of year for mentioning one of my favourite ‘untranslatables’.

‘Poronkusema’, in Finnish, once denoted a distance of around 7.5km, which is roughly how long a reindeer can last before needing to urinate. ‘Poronkusema’ means ‘reindeer pee’.

An underwater photo of tadpoles against a bright blue sky has won first place in the inaugural Royal Society Publishing photography competition. Scientist and photographer captured the winning shot while snorkeling in a canal in his native Belgium.

It amuses me that I consistently misspell ableism. You'd better not point it out 😅

It would be so easy to lash out in anger and return that hate back. Instead, I'm seeking support from safe people. I'm looking after myself. I'm reminding myself abelism and hate do not change reality. I am proud of my neurodivergent family. #actuallyautistic

Haha very funny guys. Sending in photos without dogs in them. Thought we just wouldn’t notice? Hilarious. Still 12/10 for the blanket

Did you know New Zealand and other south-west Pacific islands have LEAF-VEINED SLUGS?!

Unlike their omnivorous European relatives, these unique leaf-mimicking slugs eat only fungi. They breathe mainly through the skin of the back, which is kept moist by secretions passing along the many grooves! 🧪

Hey! Here's an artist ident I was commissioned to create for MTV a few years back. The brief was wonderful, it simply had to reflect the emotion 'HAPPY' and use the colour yellow, the rest was entirely open to my interpretation.

If you're wondering what nature-based solutions are, here's a short primer from @worldresources.bsky.social. Highly recommended!
What Exactly Are 'Nature-based Solutions'?
Nature-based solutions harness the power of ecosystems to address multiple challenges at once, from climate change and biodiversity loss to shrinking economies.

When I'm hours past when I should sleep, I come across the most fascinating new information. Last night I discovered the pennant-winged nightjar exists - what an incredible beauty!

Could you look at this face and tell her some people don't like rodents? Not even gerbils! Baffling. #pettax #rescue

Don't be tempted to clear dead vegetation & seed heads before winter. They offer shelter for invertebrates, & many seeds provide natural food for birds. In our garden, goldfinches feast on verbena, knapweed, lavender, even lettuce seed heads. What do the birds go for near you? #UKbirding #gardening

The beauty of Twitter was that an account with tons of followers would tweet something whacked about wombats and the world’s leading wombat expert would reply to set the record straight. I think Bluesky has the potential for that.
