I focused a lot this time on keeping the values of the color the same and it worked pretty well. Visible in b&w

Messed around with markov chains in pico8 for a bit to make a goofy little hypothetical question generator.

It's neat, but did get me thinking about proc gen and that dangerous LLM "need more data to make it work well" territory.

Starting the little barking dog sim prototype in pico8. Dog is barking. Enjoying the limitations here, and re-thinking my plans to fit into a workable tiny proof of concept.

Was looking into different games that took a more "property centric" approach to game design for most of the day. Y'know your Thiefs and Deus-ex's ofc, but I didn't know Dungeon Siege was designed that way too.

So ofc bought it to "research" aka procrastinate the rest of the day.

I've been tinkering with this smaller game idea now for... a month or two? Probably too early to share too much implementation but I think the concept drawings I've dabbled with so far are fun and have potential.

Wow it's already been nearly a month since I decided to pick up C and start up some engine-y coding. Feels almost embarrassingly slow progress-wise, but I got some custom bitmap font loading/render working. Learned a LOT about memory, character encoding standards, C project building / linking etc.

Working through some character rigging stuff, still wip but I think all the rough bits are working. Needs some more quality of life stuff, color coding and better groups etc.

Ready to get to animations and importing but trying to not leave too much screwed up.

Also, hand painting little 128x128 textures is very fun, highly recommend. Really enjoying a lot of tiny little detail that doesn't matter, like sword/dagger-like looks for her nails.

Getting most of these textures situated in a way I'm liking. Still no idea about the pants yet though 🤔. It's the one part of her design I really didn't do any textile ref or design for yet, whoops.

Got this about as far as I wanted to kick it around today. Textures and stuff as still wip, just getting the impression before revising those.

I think the concept translated alright! Took elements from the newer sketch and some older stuff, like the back ribbons.

Still messing around trying to design the protagonist for the game I'm working on. Trying something more knit/sweater-y and casual.

Still feels like it needs some work, but I'll take it into 3d today and maybe work out some more design stuff while modeling her for the first round of character art.

Also a screenshot the test level in Trenchbroom, where I set up pretty much everything at the moment including patrol points.

And what that looks like after importing into Godot via func_godot. I wanted to use Trenchbroom Loader for the Godot import, but got hung up figuring out custom entities.

Been making some good progress on my little stealth game. Got guard patrols, some basic behaviors and sensory reaction stuff going on now.

So I keep a little spreadsheet and loosely keep up with the time I spend on gamedev.

Ideally I try for "positive" tracking. Aka I don't push myself to hit quotas for the week or anything, if I log in and numbers go up that's enough. Helps me feel good about even small things I can get done.
