I don’t rate this whole cold, wet and dark at Christmas thing. I want sunshine, mangoes, cherries, beach time and picnics.

‘Lethally managing’. Just say killing.
“Humanely euthanise” Yeah, sure

Love and solidarity to the Jewish community after what has now apparently been confirmed as a terrorist attack, leaving a least 12 people dead on the first night of Chanukah.
We are horrified and shaken in the wake of the mass shooting at a Chanukah event in Bondi this evening, which has left at least ten people dead and injured many more.

This is the first night of Chanukah when we gather with loved ones and friends to light the Chanukiah. 1/4

*I am fully aware of how foolish this is. I may still do it.

Besides the fact that wealth, opportunity, safety, rights and justice are so unequally distributed, it is utterly bizarre to criticise people for working for a better world.
I find it fascinating watching Aussies sitting in a prosperous, functional, well-governed country with an unglamorous but adequate government, and somehow managing to direct their hatred against these things, rather than focusing on shitheads like Dutton/Joyce/Hanson who are trying to destroy it

The 2025 LSAANZ Conference, hosted by the University of Canterbury on the beautiful lands of the Ngāi Tūāhūriri, was so so good. Its themes of rights, relationality, resilience and reciprocity shone through every session. My sincere thanks to all the organisers, and especially @prof-mac.bsky.social

My (almost) three week trip to Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand was great but it’s also wonderful to be home. It really struck me how much I love the gentle light in England. I wasn’t even mad when the sun set before 4:30pm yesterday.

It does seem like Australian governments don’t see children as rights-bearing people who deserve evidence-based laws that respect their autonomy and need for connection & community, and allow them the space to mature and learn.
“Let them be kids!”

But Victoria passed the Adult Time for Violent Crime legislation which can send 14 year olds to adult jails.

Which is it you want them to be? Adults or children?

Or simply not seen or heard at all?

Why are announcements on planes, buses etc so excessively loud? It is so unpleasant.

It was a cold December afternoon, the line stretched round the block
And some of them were weeping and some were still in shock
Seven thousand came that day to pay their last respects
To fourteen women slaughtered for no reason but their sex.
Judy Small’s Montreal, December '89 always makes me cry.
