Dutchy in the UK. Programmer. Racing, football, history, politics. TTRPG. Terrible guitar player. Lead Dev for the Serious Racing League. Tendency to throw money away on horses or the stock market. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't
A fine innings 🫡

RIP
It is with profound sadness that The Yorkshire County Cricket Club announces the passing of Harold Dennis “Dickie” Bird MBE OBE, one of cricket’s most beloved figures, who died peacefully at home at the age of 92.

We don’t make much that would fall under “adult content”, but I think it is very wrong for payment processors to seize moral control of what can be sold.

‘Adult content’ has long been the canary in the coal mine. And it is wrong and dangerous for art and creators to be attacked this way.

#LastNightInDnD we managed to trick a Hag by wording a deal very carefully. I suppose it was more tricking our tired DM as a real Hag would've seen through it, but they all count right

I'm sure it won't come back to haunt us later.

Downside, the rest of the party now know my sword is cursed #dnd

In the real world, however, Keir Starmer also used the words “incalculable damage”. And as importantly, none of the levers he pulled fix the “problem”:

“Incalculable damage” - a ludicrous claim for many reasons, but my favourite is that the measures in the white paper get the UK to something like c350k a year net. Incalculable damage, fixed by getting down from c500k in a “normal” year post-Johnson’s visa changes.

This is quite a journey
Recently I found myself on Antipope Instagram, where there are endless reels of the current Antipope of the Palmarian Catholic Church.

This is, of course, extremely my jam, and I started reading up on them hoping to find some wild theology, but instead I found something WAY better...

Cheltenham 2025 – Day One
SUPREME NOVICES HURDLE Kopek des Bordes (4/5)  is the talking horse and while he’s looked very good so far, especially the last day,, I’m hesitant to kick the festival off with an odds-on shot…

The magic of Gene Hackman is that he somehow played the same person and a completely different person, simultaneously, in every movie, and it always felt exactly right. If you saw his face in a movie when you were flipping channels, you stopped to watch. Because it's Gene Hackman.

Always wondered how the Star Wars Emperor could start with a battle-hardened army and end up with an "entire legion of his best troops" being beaten to death by teddybears with sticks.

Then Hegseth ended up as US Defence Sec. And now yeah that makes sense.

The point of diplomacy is not to “internationally deliver” the domestic policy goals of a government, it’s to build the relationships& gather the expertise needed to protect the safety& prosperity of the country in a dangerous world that is constantly changing.
Wrong priorities, insular thinking.

Meet the destroyer HMS Glowworm. In April 1940 she was forced to fight the German Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, ten times her size, and Hipper's destroyer escorts.

Her extraordinary last stand earned her captain the first Victoria Cross of WW2. In part because THE GERMANS nominated him for one /1 🧵

Great fun getting back at the (virtual) table for some #DnD last night.

Daft little level 1 one-shot, but we all had great fun, recruited a Goblin (after he and his mate nearly TPK'd the three of us) and solved the mystery of the stolen spices, earning us a lifetime supply of pies in the process.
