Tax wealth not work.
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

It is time to call time on billionaires and the corruption fostered by their ridiculous ambitions to become even more wealthy. Time they learn to count the cost. Tax wealth not work.

What’s going on with us humans that so many admire the accumulation of wealth no matter its source?

Billionaires think they are special but they make many errors in their thinking. They equate their extreme wealth with their distinction as very clever human beings. They may be clever but they ignore all the advantages they started with, not of their own making.

Policy must shift. According to Prof Danny Dorling, rate of inc in growth is slowing on every metric he tested with the exception of carbon hungry aviation (if my memory serves).
For 50 years, Western politics has rested on a single promise: growth. But what if that promise can no longer be kept?

In this video, I ask a question almost no politician dares to face: what happens to democracy when growth flatlines permanently?

This is the consequence of policy decisions made by the haves congratulating themselves while pouring contempt on the have nots and blaming them for their poverty. We used to think this blaming the poor for their poverty was Victorian but it is both contemporary and contemptible.
The world's richest 0.001% now control 3x as much wealth as the entire bottom half of humanity combined.

56,000 wealthy individuals have more than roughly 4 billion people.

Read that back.
Just 0.001% hold three times the wealth of poorest half of humanity, report finds
Data from World Inequality Report also showed top 10% of income-earners earn more than the other 90%

I'm exhausted from a conversation with someone who believes with conviction in Thatcher economics; that a national budget is the same as a domestic one; austerity is the necessary antidote to debt and that Labour always leave the country worse off than the Tories.

There is a much better way to be human than the one encouraged by current rules for corporate governance. One that notices the impact of privilege and luck and doesn't confuse it with being better than our fellow men and women.
What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Reminder: This vast consolidation of wealth and power at the top has not been due to neutral market forces.

There’s no such thing as a “free market.”

It is designed.

It either advances public purposes or it serves the monied interests.

As in the USA, so too in the UK
Drug companies have hired over 500 lobbyists this year to gut the Inflation Reduction Act's drug price negotiation provisions.

They outnumber public interest advocates more than 20 to 1.

We must get money out of politics and end Big Pharma's deadly greed once and for all.
