Trumpism is a moral issue.
It still boggles my mind that so many people couldn't grasp last year how significantly more morally depraved a second Trump term would be in comparison to the first. And how so many people still can't comprehend that our national crisis isn't about politics, but simple morality.

Americans don’t have to imagine what attempts to subvert an election could look like—because it’s already happening in North Carolina, @dgraham.bsky.social argues in The Atlantic Daily:

JD Vance’s Dangerous View of American Nationhood
The power of the American ideal comes not from Americans being a “particular people” with a common heritage—an ethnically-rooted nation like others—but from its being different.

If you treasure honesty, integrity, the rule of law, and decency, you must be prepared to reject whataboutism and to risk mockery by insisting that no, not everybody does it, and we don’t want to accept the kind of society in which that is assumed.

It's striking how much Trumpists hate what's made the United States great: immigration, trade, medical and scientific research, the rule of law, an enlightened patriotism, a willingness and ability to correct past injustices.

At the end of the day, Trumpism is Third Worldism.
