Will Greaves, the Liberal MP for Victoria and a fierce opponent of Smith’s proposal, told Canada’s National Observer last month that he wasn’t sure Mark Carney and his cabinet appreciated the political firestorm that a new Northern Gateway would ignite. “I'm worried that they are underestimating the breadth and depth of concern and opposition to another coastal pipeline from Alberta to BC, and very specifically one that would go through the interior of the province in the way that a Northern Gateway project would,” Greaves said.

Sunken Rose Garden Tuesday - Two for today from Government House in Victoria BC. The darker yellow one is a new Just Joey. The paler yellow is Wollerton Old Hall which is climbing on one side of our entrance arbour. It was planted there before Covid but has languished until this year.
Just Joey is a beautiful orangey yellow rose. Wollerton Old Hall is a pale yellowy cream cupped climbing rose.

A question for all the rosarians...This very beautiful salmon pink rose lives in the Sunken Rose Garden at Government House in Victoria but it doesn't have a name. I am working on identifying all of the UFO's in the Garden but I am stumped by this one! #roses #identification
Salmon pink very full cupped rose. Buds are coral; new flower is salmon; ole flour fades to pale pink. Leaves are glossy and gently pointed.

I went to the Oak Bay Rose Garden this afternoon. Hadn’t been since they fenced it. Just gorgeous!
Take It Easy is a hot pink rose with a pale pink centre Frances Meilland is a pale pink rose. This one was huge! About face is a mango colour rose. Some of the beds of roses in the Oak Bay Rose Garden.

Sunken Rose Garden Tuesday - Every Tuesday, I volunteer in the Sunken Rose Garden at Government House in Victoria BC. I thought I would start a new weekly post to show off some of our lovely roses. We planted many new roses this year. Here are a few - check the ALT tag for names.
Kencara Sunrise is a beautiful deep yellow rose. Leonardo da Vinci is a deep pink rose. Princesse Charlene de Monaco is a peach coloured rose. Amaglia is a climbing rose with cluster-type white flowers with a hint of pink.

I did not know this so I just did a little research. I found this in Cal Matters (June 23 2023) calmatters.org/politics/202...
In 2017, California was on track to be the first state to pass an absolute ban on marriages for those younger than 18. However, due to opposition from the American Civil Liberties Union, the Children’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood, the bill proposed by then-Sen. Jerry Hill was watered down to add some safeguards for child marriage. In an opposition letter, the ACLU said that the bill “unnecessarily and unduly intrudes on the fundamental rights of marriage without sufficient cause,” while the Children’s Law Center said that “…for some minors, the decision to marry is based on positive, pro-social factors and the marriage furthers their personal, short and long-term goals.”

Navy Lady is a Canadian-bred rose. It was chosen to commemorate the women who served in the Canadian Navy for the centennial anniversary of the Canadian Navy in 2010. We have several in the Sunken Rose Garden at Government House in Victoria. #RoseWednesday a day late!
