"Listening to sad music can lead to beneficial effects such as regulation of negative emotion and mood as well as consolation. Such beneficial emotional effects constitute the prime motivations for engaging with sad music in everyday life (Taruffi & Koelsch, 2014)."

Two 50-something men in the isle of the grocery store talking about how hard they had it as children. Both men describing physical/emotional abuse from their mothers without naming it - trying to laugh it off all while nodding and understanding. People WANT to talk. We NEED community grief spaces.

It's OK to not know what to say. Let's talk about our lack of preparedness for difficult conversations.
What to say when someone is grieving is tricky. Sometimes actions speak louder than words

So many layers of grief in this case. #NovaScotia is feeling every bit of it as more and more cases flood our news streams. And, we know that's only the reported and covered ones.

Here's to everyone who might be feeling disappointed, #grief, angry, guilty, or jealous as we ring in the new year. These feelings are important to acknowledge but don't seem to have the same PR as the "positive" feelings. Let's talk about that more in 2025.

Signing off, with this suggestion to maintain our peace of mind over these few days so filled with emotion & expectations.
Create yourself a retreat space.
Use it.
Whether you're soaking up joy, breathing out sorrow, or calming your frustrations - take some mindful moments.

Wishing us peace.

Maybe this time of year is hard. Maybe it's the actual worst. Are you hesitant to go to events worried you won't feel cheery enough, or want to leave part way through.

I get it.

Give yourself permission to take breaks, arrive late/leave early, or decline an invitation. Take care of yourself.

I often hear people speak about "Two Cape Bretons."

One #CapeBreton boasts the 3rd "Most Beautiful Island in the World."

One Cape Breton has a 32.4% #ChildPoverty rate - #StatisticsCanada 2022.

Has anyone else heard this?
