I represented Portland on a panel discussion about addressing extreme heat with other local leaders, and I was so excited to talk about all the great resilience work that’s happening through the Portland Clean Energy Fund.

I want to be clear about what the detention impact fee proposal, introduced by Councilors Morillo and Green, is designed to do. This isn’t a revenue tool — it’s a deterrence tool.

Renters: I want to hear from you! At our next Homelessness and Housing Committee meeting on Tuesday, November 18, we’re holding open public testimony so renters can speak directly to councilors about their experiences and what they’d like to see from the City.

If we’re meeting our community on the streets with direct resources and a place for them to go that fits their need – what they ACTUALLY need – I’m all for that. But that’s not what’s happening when people are swept.

Judge Immergut made it clear in her ruling: the Trump administration's claims about Portland are untethered from the facts. If you look at people in frog and chicken costumes and consider that a war zone, I think you need to get your glasses checked.
