Schlageter had been executed by the French and his grave later became a Nazi shrine. If our political press convinces Democrats to focus on Joe Biden for the next however many months instead of doing everything they can to stop Republicans from their continued push to end democracy, it will be the greatest gift to authoritarianism in generations.
For the most part, leading Democrats are ducking what is fast becoming the first real litmus test of the 2028 campaign: former President Biden's mental acuity.
