Working to make theater a more equitable place
I know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but of my 6 nibblings, my 13 year old niece continues to prove that she’s my favorite. This year for Christmas she asked for sealing wax and stamps! She is absolutely my kind of child! I hope she never loses that sense of whimsy

This year we decided to skip the middle man and just got the cats a box for Christmas. It was a success!

I did the math on the cost of my #ACA coverage since 2020 when I started on Amerihealth. In general I’ve had the same type of coverage (silver plan) with no subsidies. 2026 by far is the biggest increase in premiums

“Love Actually” is a terrible movie, but I absolutely will watch it every year and this year it’s while I’m wrapping Christmas presents. It’s terrible and I love everything about it!

Solidarity with my IATSE friends in West Virginia!
ON STRIKE: ‘The Gun on Second Street’ Crew is on Strike In West Virginia in Absence of Good Faith Negotiations

IATSE members are ordered not to cross the picket line & should not work for this production in the event they attempt to replace the crew.

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, so that means it’s time to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol! I am 47 years old and will probably watch it 3 or 4 more times before New Years at the very least.

This year has sucked ass. I’ve just gotten off antibiotics, so I really need this

Look carefully at the plans you’re offered on ACA. The recommended plan for me (I do not receive a subsidy) didn’t increase in price BUT it greatly reduces the benefits I get. Went from $45 copay to 40% coinsurance. A little math says I’d pay at least $600 more on healthcare with this plan

Got my Covid & Flu shots today. Seams my CVS doesn’t care if I “qualified” though I was ready reason. (Being a cancer survivor is finally good for something!)

They wanted me to get the TDap and HepB too. Seems like there is scrambling to get everyone vaccinated while they still can

In 1948, Woodie Guthrie wrote a poem called “Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos),” about a plane that went down while deporting a plane full of Mexican laborers back to Mexico. The words still ring true today
Probably because ICE did not know who the detainees were because they are just grabbing random brown people off the street.

I have to say the most charming thing about my union board meetings is that we always have cake at the end! The pretext is that usually someone has a birthday this month, but really it’s about cake!

And also labor organizing. But cake!

I took my cats to the vet today, and the vet snuggled up with one of them because she is a very nervous kitty and she needed some extra love.

Now my cat smells like the vet’s perfume!

So far, I’m really happy with the work Congressperson McIver has been doing. I love seeing her posts when she is actively in the community. 10/10 will vote for her again!
This Week in the 10th, Team LaMonica was out in the community:

📁Hosting mobile office hours in Kenilworth
🔩Visiting Lincoln Tech in Union
💜Bringing Congress to your corner in Jersey City
And more!

The world is going to shit and my life has been chaos lately, but today I took a scenic train ride to a wine vineyard and gosh if New Jersey isn’t lovely!

Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union
I'm sticking to the union, I'm sticking to the union
Oh, you can't scare me, I'm sticking to the union
I'm sticking to the union till the day I die

In other news, Charlotte my rescue kitty says it’s too hot. But also she says she doesn’t like to be brushed even though it will remove excess fur. She’s willing to trade a handful of treats for brushing though.

I wrote a long letter to @booker.senate.gov @kim.senate.gov and @replamonica.bsky.social about how Trump's tariffs affected my small business making costumes for theater and dance. The TL;DR is I was billed for $1279.08 in import duties for fabric from China that can't be sourced in the US. 🧵

Looks like there’s a protest! Rt 22 in Union NJ!

Plainfield NJ is flooding. Many of the surrounding towns too. So far where I am isn’t bad, but anyone out there please stay safe! And don’t try to drive on US 22!

When James Stout shares one of these, I know it’s worthwhile. As a cancer survivor myself, I couldn’t say no.

I’m covered in glitter, but it is done! Fancy circus unitards are in their way!

Today in “tariffs that other countries aren’t paying” I got a bill from FedEx for $1279.08 for fabric purchased from England for a costume I made.

Fantastic.

We’re watching Rogue Heroes and I’m very excited because we’ve gotten to an episode where the SAS is apparently going the collaborate with the Italian Partisans and I’m reading a book about women in the Italian resistance RIGHT NOW!
