Econ PhD student at the University of Utah. Interested in Bayesian econometrics and alternative research methodologies. Owned by a cat.

Over the last month, I have been a driving instructor for two of my colleagues as they prepare to get their driver's licences.

It has been both rewarding and full of adventure and a few near misses. Regardless of the subject, nothing comes close to the joy of teaching and tutoring.

I find it odd when academics shy away from using AI tools on the logic that they have a fully functioning brain. Since when was being an intellectual Luddite a badge of honor?

I can see why many academics are so quick to accept Karl Popper's view on scientific methodology. The man knew how to justify his stance in an appealing way.

I picked these up for $35 at Ken Sander's Books in Downtown SLC as they are having (or at least we're having yesterday) a 25% off sale.

They also have this awesome catalogue of books, pamphlets, etc. pertaining to 20th century Radical Politics.

In investigating the reasonableness of our own modes of thought and behaviour under uncertainty, all we require, and all that we are reasonably entitled to, is consistency among these beliefs, and their reasonable relation to any kind of relevant objective data. This is Probability Theory.

Throughout history, bureaucrats, business owners, and bosses typically have viewed workers as lazy, untrustworthy, and inefficient. If you aren't productive, you are worthless in their eyes.

For journalists who choose to do more than just repeat the NBA stories (i.e. great journalist like @nrarmour.bsky.social, @sarahspain.com), I wrote about the upcoming labor dispute in the WNBA.

The NBA is very much choosing to treat the women they employ badly!
The WNBA Labor Dispute Is Just Another Choice Made by the NBA - The Sling
If you’re a fan of the WNBA, it’s pretty clear which side you should support in this dispute. The NBA owners are exploiting players by claiming losses, just as they’ve done many times in the past. It ...

Great write-up on the UCWU's Living Wage Campaign.

If you work on the U's campus and have any questions about what the UCWU is, feel free to ask.

HJR 8 is horrible.

This amendment to Utah's constitution would allow employers to deny employment to an individual based on membership status in a union.

Jordan Teuscher is a threat to Utah's workers.
