Hello. A little introduction. I'm a child of a paratrooper/Vietnam vet, spouse of a retired Navy vet, parent of 2. This is my outlet to speak freely about issues pertaining to democracy, human rights, racial equality, social decency, religious freedom & basic common sense. My filter fluctuates 😁
I've been quiet over here for a while because I've been busy trying to keep my jaw off the ground since the inauguration. I'm in such disbelief of what's happening in our country 🤦 Bottom line, we must fight against the destruction of our democracy and decency!

Hi, Tufts professor here. As someone who was on campus during the time in question, your claims about what Rumeysa Ozturk did bear no resemblance to reality. So did you just revoke her visa because she co-authored an anodyne op-ed that never mentioned Hamas?

Seeing folks on the other site claim that Alien Enemy Act removals are not reviewable by courts.
The statute explicitly requires "a full examination and hearing," and there are literally *dozens* of reported cases from the War of 1812, World War I, and World War II:

Agreed! But they are not really even "deporting" them, they're basically human trafficking them into prison slave labor.
Something we haven’t focused on enough is that the Trump administration isn’t just deporting people without process, it’s deporting them & incarcerating them in inhumane conditions in a third country. And we are paying for that cruel & unusual punishment that our government is imposing.

Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.
@washingtonpost.com They were not DEPORTED. Deported means sending them back to their country of origin. These people were sent to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, without any due process or any analysis as to whether they feared harm in El Salvador!
In America, EVERYONE has a RIGHT to due process - regardless of immigration status. It’s fundamental to our Constitution.
Deporting hundreds of people in secret by invoking a wartime proclamation is a blatant abuse of power by President Trump.

Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.

This idea that the Admin is trying to sell that they don't have to respond to, much less be bound by, an individual district court judge is particularly pernicious. We have 3 levels of federal courts. The orders of all of them are equally binding. If you don't like decisions, you can appeal.

DOJ: POTUS has authority outside of the AEA/he has extra powers over an airplane that has entered international airspace and those extra powers allow him to ignore court orders.

As for Judge Boasberg’s fitness, he has served on both the Alien Terrorist Removal Court & the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. Hard to imagine a more qualified judge for these issues.
