Photograph was from summer a few years ago - the American Goldfinches are in their winter drab now. They've been eating the thistle feeder down frequently. I bought a big bag, so they won't run out. 🪶

People who should know better refer to Brown-headed Cowbirds with a variety of perjoratives. These birds are not "jerks" or "lazy" - they are surviving.
A question sometimes asked is, "How do cowbirds grow up to be cowbirds?" when reared by some other species.

Tulip trees have fascinating seed pods - they look like little candles as they mature and dry - once the pods release all the samaras (slender and winged) they remain on the trees like stylized flowers until wind, rain, or gravity take them off as they age.
