A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 mins between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or in your garden or community green spaces could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝

There are some plants that I remove before they get too big and tough or numerous. At #Knepp #rewilded project, this impulse to intervene was referred to as 'the call to care' - a call which we humans must try to manage sustainably. Here are the Alkenet leaves on the compost. I drown the roots.

We also learned how many 20th #Finchley #Cubs can circle this wonderful ancient hollow oak = six + one inside the hollow! This tree is on the Allotment path - Totteridge & Whetstone end - it is over 300-years-olf and is one of four old oaks that would have been boundary trees.

We enjoyed the lively company of the 20th #Finchley #Cubs today on our Nature Walk & Litter Pick - happy to see very little litter on public paths through #Whetstone #Stray Allotments & on the #Dollis #Valley #Greenwalk Lots of great questions and spots including a tiny woodmouse and a kestrel.
