Okay I received another email from @support.bsky.team that addressed many of my concerns. I was really pleased with how productive the conversation particularly considering how busy of a week this has been. I am going to be writing up a thoughtful response to it tonight.
I have received (and it came earlier today but I’m horrible at email checking) some thoughtful responses to this from @support.bsky.team I had some follow up questions and I don’t want to derail the conversation without hearing from them again so I’m going to wait to post it ❤️
So I hate to tag the mods- but I sent this email about the mass deletion of Palestinian accounts over a week ago to @support.bsky.team and I haven’t heard anything back (apologies if I somehow missed an email). I’d like to ensure it will be seen by the proper people.

And mainly I think it is because the culture has encouraged actually getting to know the people who are facing a genocide, and once you know a Gazan- you too will be willing to defend them.

Part of the reason that we were able to identify the problems with Gazans getting flagged and removed is because so many people interacted with them and supported them.

Like all day long I see people defending the accounts on here and helping them and sometimes throwing fits when something happens to them. I’m sure that does happen on other platforms too but it happens here consistently every day for months.

I know there is a lot of talk about Bluesky being hostile to Gazans (and I know that my post started a lot of it) but I want to say that of all the platforms I’ve been on I haven’t seen a more organized group to defend Gazans- not Palestine- I’ve seen plenty of that other places- but actual Gazans

Scammers target Gazans.
Think about how much time and effort it would take to fake being in Gaza. Feasibility aside, would the payout be worth it?

Scammers want quick, easy money.
It is much quicker and much easier to try to extract money from people who are already desperate.

This one is pretty crude but I’ve seen ones that are more sophisticated. But what you should note is they aren’t trying to scam people who want to donate to GFMs they are trying to scam Gazans.

Hani’s family has a tent that is not weatherproof and floods when it rains. He has looked for a better tent and it is $1800 to $2000 (which I can vouch that I’ve seen tent prices that high from other people too). It’s a very large ask but he is very worried about winter.

This is just a general warning that if you are sending someone in Gaza money over PayPal it is best not to mention Palestine or post a flag or a watermelon in the message. You could write like “for food” or something generic. (don’t like panic if you did this or anything just don’t do it again)
