This isn’t the first time Jyaire has done this this year. It’s usually against shitty competition. Michigan State game another really obvious example.

beware the ghost of Joe Gibbs

we ran it like shit all last year bc we didn’t control the back side DE. but against Odd looks I think it makes a lot of sense. have 3 for 3 on the DL and then you test how well those LBs can fit. can move around the TE and try to mash the front side or control the back.

I like the wide splits

why don’t you like it? the run down from Barham? need a plan for that guy and they just expected the Q looking at him to do it. much prefer to have a TE on the line for that guy bc yeah. alternative is having an RPO on the backside.

Man On Demand or Man Only Deep. If your guy is vertical, you have him man to man. If he’s short you’re zoning off. Standard quarters and cover 3 plays a very similar technique vs number 1 and it opens up those hitches from Marsh.

Why let Bryce have that easy money?

Could see them eventually going 1 Double? Don’t think they really have the Zeus stuff in the playbook right?

1 Double on And Throw would make a lot of sense.

I think the way it works is you’re making them wonder if it’s coming. I don’t think it works 99% of the time perhaps ever. But if so you have to wait and make them think you might not.

Fortunately I imbued him with the power of the reverse jinx

Looked like some form of Red 2 from Rutgers there with the safeties playing up but getting depth w the WR. Snag from OSU and Kienholtz missed the obvious spot route for the first.

Bailed out by a very stupid penalty ofc.

And then pure 0 on the explosive. Maybe not wise.

Oh completely correct. Is what it is. But I won’t give my aesthetic/romantic opinions up that easily.

the blue pants are BAD and I cannot be persuaded otherwise

Vs. gap, if the BSLB doesn't recognize immediately and get over the down block, the PSDT and PSLB have to win decisively bc second level can't out number the pullers and kill the run. And in these fits, the BSLB has a backside gap on his mind to be responsible for.
November 21, 2025 at 8:25 PM
I think it also explains the differences in our guys ability to fit up gap vs. zone that we've seen all year. Against zone, it's just much easier to track your playside gap and then fall back as the ball carrier cuts back if your front is sound.

*make up for NOT being gapped out

The past few weeks we’ve seen Michigan changing the depth of their backers. I think they’re trying to give them enough time to read the play.

But I suspect this was fundamentally a mistake and asking far too much of our LBs. Teaching more to ask them to do less was the better path.
November 21, 2025 at 8:11 PM
I think on the one hand, I understand this simplification. Teach one run fit that goes with every single call.

On the other hand, it’s asking a lot of the linebackers to constantly ball fit, especially vs. gap. If you’re responsible for backside and frontside gaps, that can be paralyzing.
