It got overshadowed by the pipeline news, but NYS’s deal to allow Greenidge Generation to keep operating an upstate gas plant *for the sole purpose of mining bitcoin* might be almost as big of a reversal gothamist.com/news/upstate...
Upstate NY Bitcoin mine agrees to slash emissions, will get air permit from the state
The move comes days after Hochul’s administration paved the way for a new natural gas pipeline in New York Harbor.

The story I've been wanting to read is about the actual obstacles in Albany to Mayor-elect Mamdani's agenda, what the political dynamics are, and what might be the competition for any revenue increases. Our friends at @nysfocus.bsky.social told that story and we're proud to elevate it.
Zohran Mamdani’s Next Big Battle Is in Albany - The American Prospect
Mamdani convinced New York City voters to back his agenda—now he needs to convince Albany politicians. The money his administration needs to fund his priorities will not be won without a fight.

Perhaps the most striking upsets outside New York City on Tuesday came at the little-watched county level, where Democrats flipped two legislatures long held by Republicans and picked up seats in other red-leaning areas.

Working Families Party–backed candidates flipped county legislatures, won big-city mayoralties, and secured an Assembly seat in Elise Stefanik’s backyard.

Will institute 2.8% bill increases for each of the next three years and “heat pump–friendly” electric rates. The ratepayer advocacy group PULP is staying neutral.

Mamdani's approach on climate is a sharp contrast to that of other New York politicians, like Governor Kathy Hochul, who’ve framed green goals as clashing with cost-of-living issues.

They also voted in progressive candidates in several of the state’s largest cities, flipped county legislatures blue, and chose a new Democratic assemblymember in US Representative Elise Stefanik’s backyard.

Zohran Mamdani ran an ultra-disciplined campaign for mayor — one that barely touched on climate change. Once he's in office, how will the one-time self-described "ecosocialist" govern?

Here's @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social with the backstory:

Another great piece on Mamdani and climate. I see a lot of people saying "but his transit/housing campaigns ARE about climate" and... yeah. But the observation that he did not campaign ON climate despite his past work to the issue is meaningful.
